Pair of top-10 finishes for Taylor in Sparkling City Classic
Jeff Taylor’s season extended into December over the weekend when he competed in the inaugural edition of the Sparkling City Classic at South Texas Race Ranch. Across three days of racing at the Corpus Christi facility, Taylor posted two top-10 finishes.
Each night, the first-place payout in the IMCA Modified class increased by $1,000. On Thursday, a $1,000 winner’s share was up for grabs at the quarter-mile track, while $2,000 went to the victor on Friday, and Saturday’s winner pocketed $3,000. Twenty-five or more IMCA Modified drivers competed in each program, including Taylor in his No. 5 machine.
Thursday saw Taylor advance from eighth to second in his heat race. He rolled off fourth to start the 20-lap feature and picked up two positions to grab the runner-up spot, taking the checkered flag 0.772 seconds behind his teammate Drew Janssen. Dean Abbey, Chase Neil and P.J. Egbert completed the top five.
On Friday, Taylor again raced to second in his heat. He then drew the fifth starting spot for the 25-lap A-Main. He was battling for third early in the race when he likely ran over a tie rod, causing multiple issues. He ultimately finished 15th.
In Saturday’s finale, Taylor took fifth in his heat, putting him in a B-Main. He finished third in the consolation race to move into the 25-lap main event, where he started 15th and finished ninth.
