Jeff Taylor takes on Dakota Classic Modified Tour
Just after the Fourth of July, Jeff Taylor embarked on a week’s worth of $2,000-to-win IMCA Modified shows as part of the Dakota Classic Modified Tour in North Dakota and Saskatchewan. Forty-five or more cars were on hand each night of the popular event.
Racing got underway on Saturday, July 5, at the quarter-mile Jamestown (North Dakota) Speedway, where Taylor drove his Skyway Auto Group No. 5 Modified to fourth in his heat race and third in his B-Feature. He started 21st in the 30-lap A-Main and climbed seven positions to finish 14th.
After a rainout at Nodak Speedway in Minot, North Dakota, on Sunday, the tour resumed north of the border on Monday evening at Estevan (Saskatchewan) Motor Speedway. Taylor took 10th place with a DNF in his heat race at the 3/8-mile track after being caught up in an accident on the first lap. He didn’t start his B-Feature or the main event.
For Tuesday’s program, the Dakota Classic Modified Tour shifted to Williston, North Dakota’s quarter-mile Williston Basin Speedway. Taylor finished seventh in his heat, then charged from 11th to fifth in his consolation race to earn the 22nd starting spot in the 30-lap main event. He came home 21st after retiring early.
On the next two nights, the IMCA Modified class attracted its biggest fields of the week, with 56 cars for each program.
In Wednesday’s action at Southwest Speedway in Dickinson, North Dakota, Taylor took the checkered flag in his heat race on the 3/8-mile oval. He went on to start eighth and finish 13th in the 30-lap A-Main.
The tour wrapped up on Thursday at the 3/8-mile Dacotah Speedway in Mandan, North Dakota. Taylor raced to sixth in his heat and fourth in his B-Main, starting him 24th in the 30-lap feature. He was unable to finish and recorded a 24th-place result.
